The geographic coordinates of Kotpad Assembly constituency are: 18°54'47.5"N 82°20'46.7"E. Kotpad shares its borders with four other Assembly constituencies. Other Odisha Assembly constituencies adjacent to Kotpad are: Nabarangpur, Jeypore, Koraput, Chitrakonda. This constituency shares an inter-state border with: Chattisgarh.

Demographic profile

There were a total of 2,08,283 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Assembly election, of which 1,01,081 were male, 1,07,191 female and 11 of the third gender. In the 2019 Assembly elections, there were a total of 2,04,073 registered voters, of which 1,01,081 were male, 1,05,134 female and 16 of the third gender. In 2014 elections, there were a total of 1,80,567 registered voters in this constituency, of which 88,694 were male, 91,870 female and 3 of the third gender. In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 1,66,324 which included 81,465 male, and 84,859 female.

In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Padmini Dian of BJD won in this constituency beating Chandra Sekhar Majhi of INC by a margin of 2,631 votes which was 1.57% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Chandra Sekhar Majhi of INC was the winner in this seat beating Ashok Kumar Pangi of BJD by a margin of 31,321 votes which was 21.21% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Basudev Majhi of INC won this seat defeating Gopi Nath Nayak of BJD by a margin of 11,234 votes which was 9.21% of the total votes polled for the seat.
